The Transformation – Mountains Are Mountains

Again: Why True Transformation Brings You Back to Real Life

There is a famous Zen pointer about personal transformation and spiritual awakening. It unfolds in three distinct stages:

1. Mountains are mountains and rivers are rivers.

Initially, we see the world purely through our habits, routines, and conditioning. We take everything at face value without questioning the deeper reality.

2. Mountains are no longer mountains and rivers are no longer rivers.

Then, deconstruction begins. The illusion cracks open, old identities dissolve, and our world shifts. Consequently, this phase can feel deeply disorienting.

3. Mountains are once again mountains and rivers are once again rivers.

Ultimately, you return to daily life completely transformed. You discover the extraordinary right inside the ordinary.

The Trap of Escaping Reality

It is very easy to fall into a subtle trap on the path of self-discovery. Specifically, we might start believing that awakening means escaping reality. Many people try to float away into a spiritual cloud where daily problems no longer touch them. Therefore, they spend years trying to transcend, fix, or analyze their human experience.

However, true transformation does not pull you away from life. Instead, it brings you deeply back into it.

Authentic presence is never separate from daily existence. In fact, it lives right inside the rhythm of your regular day:

  • In simple moments: You feel somatic presence as you sip your morning coffee.
  • In deep connection: You offer open, unhurried attention when listening to a friend.
  • In creative flow: You bring raw, authentic expression into your daily work.
  • In difficult times: You stay grounded whenever unexpected challenges arise.

Because let’s be honest—life still happens. Triggers arise, plans change, and obstacles appear for everyone. Awakening simply means you stop fighting reality.

Returning Home: Where Freedom Really Lives

This integration is the heart of our retreats, group residencies, and online programs. We do not teach abstract theories, nor do we help you build a “spiritual” persona.

Instead, we focus on mountains becoming mountains again. This is where true inner transformation occurs. You drop the heavy luggage of over-analyzing everything, and you step back into the lightness of being.

When you stop running from the present moment, you discover total freedom. You can simply be here, meet life as it is, and enjoy the journey.

📝 A Quick Reflection for Today

Take a short pause right now and look around your room:

  • Can you let the room just be a room?
  • Can you let this moment be as it is without trying to fix or improve it?

Notice the immediate relief that arises when you allow the mountain to simply be a mountain.
